📌 ACTI Overhead Crane Training Overview

The ACTI Overhead Crane Training Program is designed to equip operators with the knowledge and skills required to safely operate overhead cranes. This training aligns with Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) regulations, CSA B167 standards, and industry best practices, ensuring compliance and workplace safety.

Participants will learn to identify crane components, perform pre-use inspections, operate cranes safely, and apply proper load handling techniques. The course covers crane anatomy, rigging considerations, safe operations, hazard identification, and emergency response.

🔹 Key Learning Modules:

  • Legislation & Standards: Understanding OH&S regulations, CSA B167, and employer/operator responsibilities.
  • Overhead Crane Components & Functions: Identifying key parts such as hoists, trolleys, bridge, and controls.
  • Pre-Use Inspection: Checking wire rope integrity, load hooks, electrical connections, and operational safety.
  • Safe Crane Operation: Understanding load charts, lifting capacity, movement control, and operator signaling.
  • Basic Rigging Considerations: Selecting appropriate slings, shackles, hooks, and hitches for lifting loads.
  • Load Control & Tagline Use: Managing swinging, rotation, and positioning of loads using taglines.
  • Hazard Identification & Risk Mitigation: Recognizing site hazards, exclusion zones, and fall zones.
  • Emergency Procedures: Responding to crane malfunctions, dropped loads, and power failures.

✅ Upon Completion:

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand and apply OH&S and CSA standards for overhead crane operations.
  • Identify and inspect overhead crane components before use.
  • Perform safe lifting and rigging operations while maintaining load balance and stability.
  • Manage load control using taglines and proper rigging techniques.
  • Recognize and mitigate site hazards to ensure workplace safety.
  • Follow emergency response protocols in case of equipment malfunction.
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting and report issues for corrective action.
  • Pass a written knowledge assessment (minimum 80%) and successfully complete the practical evaluation.

Participants who meet all course requirements will receive an ACTI Overhead Crane Certification, recognized across Canada, ensuring they are qualified to operate overhead cranes safely in industrial, construction, and warehouse environments.
